What Makes Great Poetry?

Alberta Art Days is this weekend, a time to gather and experience everything this province has to offer in the artistic community.  Events take place in every corner of Alberta over three days.  WordFest is getting involved this year, co-hosting an event, along with the Writer’s Guild of Alberta and the Calgary Distinguished Writer’s Program, called What Makes Great Poetry?, on Sunday October 2nd at the Memorial Park Library.

Jeramy Dodds will be moderating a panel discussion on, well, what makes great poetry.  Christian Bok, Rosemary Griebel and Steven Ross Smith will debate and discuss techniques, styles and understanding, all with the aim of promoting an art form that is often overlooked these days.

Myself, I’ve never been much into reading poetry, and don’t really have a lot of experience with it.  That isn’t to say I don’t like it, I suppose I’ve just never really spent much time getting to know any great poetry, and as a result, I haven’t learned to appreciate it as I maybe should have.  I guess this event would be an excellent chance for me to right this wrong.  Plus, I see on the event description there is “Access to Wine.”
